Two thin slabs of refractive indices \mathrm{ \mu_1}  and  \mathrm{ \mu_2}  are placed parallel to each other in the x-z plane. If the direction of propagation of a ray in the two media are along the vectors \mathrm{ \vec{r}_1=a \hat{i}+b \hat{j}~ and ~\vec{r}_2=c \hat{i}+d \hat{j}}  then we have:

For snell's law,

\mathrm{ \mu_1 \sin \theta_1=\mu_2 \sin \theta_2 \\ }

\mathrm{ \frac{\mu_1 a}{\sqrt{a^2+b^2}}=\frac{\mu_2 c}{\sqrt{c^2+d^2}} }.
