Due to similar size of Li and Mg they show similar properties.

Both \mathrm{Li} and \mathrm{Mg} react with \mathrm{N}_2 to form respective nitrides

\mathrm{Li} and \mathrm{Mg} form \mathrm{Li}_2 \mathrm{O} and \mathrm{MgO} on reacting with oxygen. They don't combine with excess oxygen to give superoxides.

Stability of carbonate increases down the group due to increase in electropositive character. So \mathrm{Li}_2 \mathrm{CO}_3 and \mathrm{MgCO}_3 are less stable and hence are easily decomposed on heating.
