(a)The power consumption curve is typically a rectified or pulsating curve that oscillates with the same frequency as the voltage and current.

Power consumption will have the maximum amplitude between the three curves.

(b)The average power over a complete AC cycle is the average of the instantaneous power over that period. Average Power consumption is zero covering a positive and a similar negative area in a complete cycle.

(c) By examining the voltage, current, and power curves, one can identify whether the device is resistive, inductive, capacitive, or a combination of these. For the given circuit, the phase difference between V and I is \frac{\pi }{2}. The device ‘X’ can be an inductor or capacitor or a series combination of inductors and capacitors.
