Since one side of the square has 3 circles, thus the side of the square is 42 cm.

Area of the square  =\ a^2\ =\ 42^2\ =\ 1764\ cm^2

And, area of a circle =\ \pi r^2\ =\ \frac{22}{7}\times 7^2

=\ 154\ cm^2

Hence the area of the remaining portion =\ 1764\ -\ 9\times 154

=\ 378\ cm^2
