The incidence in the story 'My Lost Dollar' is about one dollar that the author, Stephen Leacock has given to his friend Todd. The story is about the ways that author uses to get his money back.  The fact that the amount is only one dollar makes it difficult to ask for it back. This makes the story funny and some bit exaggerated asking one dollar from a friend.

So, according to the story the practise of borrowing and lending money is funny and difficult. One finds it very difficult to remind the other person about the money given to him and asking him to give it back when the person has forgotten about such meagre amount. We want the person who has lend the money to return the money as soon as possible but the other person can't return it if they don't want to give it back or has forgotten about it. Especially in close relationships,  money is asked indirectly and hints are provided to people to remind them about paying the money back. After asking indirectly people for money and not getting it back,  finally people like Leacock give up on asking for money back from people like Todd. They also make mental note of not giving money to them in future.
