Distinguish between unicellular organism and multicellular organism give two examples of each.

  • Unicellular organisms are those organisms that have the only cell to perform all the functions of the body whereas, in multicellular organisms, more than one cell is present and every cell has assigned its specific function to perform also called division of labor. 
    • Examples of unicellular organisms are amoeba or single-celled yeast. 
    • Examples of multicellular organisms are all animals and plants. 
  • Unicellular organisms are mostly prokaryotic in nature whereas, multicellular organisms are usually eukaryotic in nature. 
  • Unicellular organisms undergo an asexual type of reproduction whereas, multicellular organisms undergo sexual type of reproduction.
