The poem "O Captain ! My Captain!, " Is written by Walt Whitman. It is an elegy after the death of Abraham Lincoln the president of America. It is the combination of both the joy and sorrow. On one hand, the people of America rejoice the victory of the ship of America in the civil war. On the other hand, the poet laments the death of Lincoln who had led the ship of America successfully during the period of war. Under his leadership America achieved his goal of abolishing slavery undergoing several difficulties of war. The captain represents the President and the ship represents the United States.
