The Enchanted Shirt is a narrative ballad written by John Hay. It tells us about the fate of a king who was irresponsible to his subjects. It also highlights the necessity of social mingling the tale of a king who is sick and the strange cure prescribed for treating him is beautifully conveyed in verses.

There was a doctor who checked his patients with his own skills and knowledge and other doctors treat his patients with the book knowledge.  King was very sick so doctor checked him but couldn't recognise his disease so the king made him hang. Another doctor told him that he could get well if he sleep wearing enchanted shirt of a happy man. 

So this poem conveys the message that one should find happiness within oneself also. We should be satisfied with whatever we have and enjoy the beautiful moments of life cheerfully.
