Relative velocity of ball with respect to the elevator = zero

\mathrm{\therefore u=0, a=g=9,8 \mathrm{~m} / \mathrm{s}^2\: downwards}

\mathrm{s=2.45\: downwards}

Newtons equation of motion -

\mathrm{\begin{aligned} s & =4 t+\frac{1}{2} g t^2 \\ 2.45 & =\frac{1}{2} \times 9.8 t^2 \\ t^2 & =\frac{2.45 \times 2}{9.8}=\frac{4.90}{9.8}=\frac{1}{2} \\ t & =\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}} \sec \quad \end{aligned}}
