.It is also sometimes asked why bond angle in \mathrm{H}_2 \mathrm{O} is smaller than \mathrm{NH}_3. The bond angle in \mathrm{H}_2 \mathrm{O} is 104.5^{\circ} whereas the same is 107^{\circ} in \mathrm{NH}_3 due to the presence of two lone pair of electrons on oxygen which repel each other.
