Which among the following is an incorrect statement?
Permanent hardness can be removed by boiling water
Water hardness effects soap consumption
Temporary hardness is due to bicarbonates salts of Ca and Mg
Permanent hardness is due to sulphates and chlorides salts of Ca and Mg
Hard water is the water that contains salts of calcium and magnesium such as bicarbonates, chlorides, and sulfates.
Water hardness caused by bicarbonates is known as temporary hardness; temporary hardness can be removed by boiling water because boiling converts the bicarbonate to the insoluble carbonate. Hardness due to presence of the chlorides and sulfates salts is permanent hardness. Permanent hardness can not be removed by boiling of water.
Calcium and magnesium ions in hard water react with the higher fatty acids of soap to form an insoluble gelatinous curd, thereby causing a waste of the soap.
