Commercial production of hydrogen using Bosch’s process involves water gas shift reaction. In Bosch’s process, first step is to produce Syn gas.

\mathrm{C}(\mathrm{s})+2 \mathrm{H}_2 \mathrm{O}(\mathrm{g}) \stackrel{1270 \mathrm{~K}}{\longrightarrow} \mathrm{CO}(\mathrm{g})+\mathrm{H}_2(g)

Second step is to heat Syn gas with steam in the presence of \mathrm{Fe}_2 \mathrm{O}_3 \cdot \mathrm{C}_2 \mathrm{O}_3.

\mathrm{\mathrm{H}_2(g)+\mathrm{CO}(g)+\mathrm{H}_2 \mathrm{O}(g) \xrightarrow[\mathrm{Fe}_2 \mathrm{O}_3 \cdot \mathrm{Cr}_2 \mathrm{O}_3]{773 \mathrm{~K}} \mathrm{CO}_2(g)+2 \mathrm{H}_2(g)}
