Carnivorous plants grow in soil that lacks nitrogen and other important nutrients. In order to fulfill its nutritional requirements, it feeds on insects or protozoans. E.g. Venus Fly Trap, Utricularia, Nepenthes etc.

In a pitcher plant, its leaf is modified into a pitcher with lids. The inner wall of the leaf has suckers to absorb body fluid from the insects that are trapped.
