Draw the graphs of the equations x = 3, x = 5 and 2x – y – 4 = 0. Also find the area of the quadrilateral formed by the lines and the x–axis.

Answers (1)

Solution:
The given equations are x = 3, x = 5, 2x – y – 4 = 0
2x – y = 4

x 2 0
y 0 -4

The quadrilateral ABCD is a trapezium.
Area of ABCD (trapezium) = \frac{1}{2} × (a + b)h

a = AD, b = BC, h = AB
= \frac{1}{2}× (AD + BC) × AB

= \frac{1}{2}× (2 + 6) × 2

Area = 8 sq. units
