Our L.H.S. is (a - 2) (a - 4)
                     = a^{2} - 4a - 2a + 8
                     = a^{2} - 6a+ 8  \neq  R.H.S.
Correct statement is  (a - 2) (a - 4)  =  a^{2} - 6a+ 8
