What is the role of the second messenger in the mechanism of protein hormone action?

Answers (1)

The Second messenger or cAMP helps regulate cell metabolism. The hormones which react with the membrane-bound receptors generally do not enter the cell. Instead of that, they create second messengers and in doing so, affect the functioning of the target cells. cAMP does so by delivering information inside the target cells and activating the appropriate cellular enzyme system. This induces the cell to perform its function.
