A cell will swell up if it is placed in a solution where the concentration of water is more on the outside of the cell as compared to the inside of the cell. Hence due to the phenomenon of osmosis in which water moves from the region of higher concentration to the region of lower concentration, water will move inside of the cell from the outside of the cell hence, the cell will be swollen up.
