An ideal gas undergoes four different processes from the same initial state (Figure). Four processes are adiabatic, isothermal, isobaric and isochoric. Out of 1, 2, 3 and 4 which one is adiabatic.
(a) 4
(b) 3
(c) 2
(d) 1
When a thermodynamic system undergoes a change in such a way that no exchange of heat takes place between it and the surroundings, the process is known as the adiabatic process.
Graph 4 is an isobaric process, and 1 is isochoric of 3 and 2,3 has the smaller slope (magnitude) and hence is isothermal. The remaining process is adiabatic. So graph 2 is adiabatic. The correct answer is option (C).
