Explanation:

Ozone is produced when oxygen atoms combine with O_{2} in the air

O(g) + O_{2}(g) \rightarrow O_{3}(g)               ………. (ii)

Now, this O3 reacts with NO to regenerate NO2, viz., a brown gas and contributes to haze at high levels.

NO(g) + O_{3}(g) \rightarrow NO_{2}(g) + O_{2}(g)        ………….. (iii)

Ozone is toxic. Chemicals such as formaldehyde, Acrolein and PAN are produced due to the reaction of NO­_{2} and O_{3} with unburnt hydrocarbons in the polluted air.

(Note: NO­_{2} and O_{3} are strong oxidising agents).

3CH_{4} + 2O_{3} \rightarrow 3CH_{2}=O + 3H_{2}O
