Why are neurons called excitable cells? Mention special features of the membrane of the neurons.

Answers (1)

Answer- The neurons are called excitable cells because their membranes are found in a polarised state. Due to this state, ions interact with the membrane and change the state of polarisation. Due to this, the neurons become excited. The ability to polarise and depolarise help in the transmission of a nerve impulse. Therefore, the neurons are often termed as excitable cells.
