Is it possible to construct a triangle with lengths of its sides as 9 cm, 7 cm and    17 cm? Give reason for your answer.

Solution.        

We know that the sum of two sides of triangle must be greater than the third side.

Let AB = 9 cm, BC = 7 cm, AC = 17 cm

AB + BC = 9 + 7 cm = 16 cm < 17 cm = AC

AB + BC < AC

So, the triangle is not possible.
