Choose the correct answer :

The statement “When an integer is added to itself, the sum is greater than the integer” is

(A) always true
(B) never true
(C) true only when the integer is positive
(D) true for non-negative integers

Answers (1)

(C) true only when the integer is positive

When an integer is added to itself implies the integer is multiplied by 2. If x is an integer x+x=2x.

2 times an integer is greater than that integer if it is positive and less than that integer if the integer is negative. If it is 0 the 0+0=0.

Example: 2+2=4 which is greater than 2

-2+(-2)=-4 which is less than -2

So the statement holds true for positive integers only.

Here the option D includes zero also. So it is not true
