Draw a line segment of length 6.5 cm and divide it into four equal parts, using a ruler and compasses.
Steps of construction:
(i) Draw a line segment AB of 7cm using the ruler.
(ii) Draw arcs of more than half the length of AB taking A as centre on both sides of line AB.
(iii) Draw arcs of more than half the length of AB taking B as centre on both sides of line AB which cutting the previously drawn arcs at E, F respectively.
(iv) Join EF which is the perpendicular bisector of AB which cuts AB at Q.
(v) Draw arcs of more than half the length of AQ taking A as centre on both sides of line AQ.
(vi) Draw arcs of more than half the length of AQ taking Q as centre on both sides of line AQ which cutting the previously drawn arcs at G, H respectively.
(vii) Join GH which is the perpendicular bisector of AQ which cuts AQ at P.
(viii) Draw arcs of more than half the length of QB taking Q as centre on both sides of line QB.
(ix) Draw arcs of more than half the length of QB taking B as centre on both sides of line BQ which cutting the previously drawn arcs at I, J respectively.
(x) Join IJ which is the perpendicular bisector of BQ which cuts BQ at R.
Hence AP = PQ = QR = RB
