Adventitious roots are the term used when the roots develop from different plant parts in angiosperm. Two examples of adventitious roots are: -
- Prop Roots in Banyan: The roots of a banyan tree are an example of prop roots. These prop roots deeply penetrate the soil and help the tree to maintain balance and support itself.
- Stilt Roots in Maize: The roots in maize plants are an example of stilt roots. These roots enter the ground and are developed from the nodes just above the ground; they provide extra support to the maize plant.
