            (D) 2.8 cm

Solution

            Theorem of inequalities says that the sum of two sides of a triangle is greater than the third side

            So,       AB < BC + AB

                        BC > AB – AC                      

            It is given that BC = 3cm

                        3 > AB – AC                           …..(1)

            Only one option satisfies the equation 1 which is option (D)

            3 > 2.8

            Therefore option (D) is correct.
