The Ganga Action Plan (GAP) was initiated because of the increase in water pollution in the river Ganga. The Government of India made more efforts to clean the river Ganga because it was polluted densely by industrial and civilian activities. The efforts to clean Ganga were initiated in the year 1975 but yet GAP came into practice in the year 1986. This plan was initiated by the Central Pollution Control Board of India. The river was polluted lot of reasons among which the civilians and the industries are the major cause. There were two main motivations for GAP: To improve the water quality of the Ganga by Inception, Diversion, and Waste Water treatment technology. Eradicate the toxic effluent from the river by measuring the gross pollutants entering the river by industrial activities.
