How are photosynthesis and respiration related to each other?
During respiration, the oxidation of carbohydrates occurs to release energy. These carbohydrates are prepared by the process of photosynthesis. Moreover, respiration requires oxygen which is released as a by-product of photosynthesis. Similarly, the carbon dioxide absorbed during respiration is essentially required for the process of photosynthesis. Both involve an electron transport chain and a reduction-oxidation process. Therefore, it is evident that both processes are interlinked.
