Why does not photorespiration take place in C4 plants?

Answers (1)

The bundle sheath present in the C4 plants helps accelerate the carbon dioxide concentration in the plant body. The RuBisCo binding is a competitive process that depends on the concentration of oxygen or carbon dioxide. If the concentration of carbon dioxide is higher, the enzyme would actively bind it and result in the respective compounds, leaving the oxygen molecules. Thus, the process of photorespiration does not occur in C4 plants.
