Equation of straight line in intercept form=\frac{x}{a}+\frac{y}{b}=1 where a and b are intercepts

 Given that a=b   \frac{x}{a}+\frac{y}{a}=1

  \frac{x+y}{a}=1

 x+y=a….(i)  

If equation ipasses through the point (1, -2) we get 1+(-2)=a 

  1-2=a 

  a=-1  

 Putting the value of   a  in equation i we get  x+y=-1

   x+y+1=0
