What changes are observed in the uterus subsequent to implantation of young embryo?
The ruptured Graafian follicle transforms into corpus luteum which secretes progesterone which is necessary for the hickening of the endometrium. A disc-like structure is formed by the interdigitation of maternal tissue and embryonal tissue which is referred to as the placenta.
The placenta serves to provide nutrients and oxygen from the mother's blood to the embryo and also removes waste generated by the embryo. The embryo and placenta are connected by the umbilical cord.
