Neelam’s father needs 1\frac{3}{4} m of cloth for the skirt of Neelam’s new dress and \frac{1}{2} m for the scarf. How much cloth must he buy in all?

Answers (1)

Length of cloth needed for the skirt =1 \frac{3}{4} \mathrm{~m}=\frac{7}{4} \mathrm{~m}

Length of cloth needed for the scarf = \frac{1}{2} \mathrm{~m}

Total length of cloth he buys in all = =\frac{7}{4} \mathrm{~m}+\frac{1}{2} \mathrm{~m}

LCM of 4,2 = 4

=\frac{7+1 \times 2}{4} \mathrm{~m}

=\frac{(7+2)}{4} \mathrm{~m}

=\frac{9}{4} \mathrm{~m}

=2 \frac{1}{4} \mathrm{~m}
