They can prepare their food with the help of sunlight, air, and water through photosynthesis.

Heterotrophs depend on autotrophs and other organisms for nutrition.                                                   
                                       
Autotrophs are the primary producers.        Heterotrophs are the consumers.
They are placed first in the food chain. They are placed at secondary and tertiary levels.
Examples: Plants, algae, and a few bacteria. Examples: Animals like cows, dogs, lions, horses, etc.
