The process of obtaining food by amoeba is called phagocytosis. Various steps of involved phagocytosis in Amoeba are as follows:
- Ingestion: Food ingests particle by forming temporary finger like structures called pseudopodia. Food is engulfed by forming vacuole around it.
- Digestion: Food particles are broken by digestive enzymes inside the food vacuole.
- Absorption: Digested food gets diffused into cytoplasm and the food vacuole disappears after digestion.
- Egestion: Removal of undigested food from amoeba.
