What is a tropic movement? Explain with an example.

Tropic movement is the directional growth of a plant in response to the external stimulus present in the environment, this movement is in response to root and shoot growth. Movement can be either towards the stimulus or away from the stimulus. They are mainly of five types:
- Phototropism- response to light
- Geotropism- response to gravity
- Chemotropism- response to certain substances
- Hydrotropism- response to water
- Thigmotropism- response to mechanical stimulation
Ex: Roots show positive geotropic movement as they grow downwards the gravity whereas shoots show negative geotropic movement as they grow upwards.
