What would happen if platelets were absent in the blood?
The main objective of platelets or thrombocytes is to form blood clots in case of an injury. In the absence of platelets, the process of coagulation will not take place which will lead to severe blood loss. Excessive loss of blood might be fatal in many cases. A low platelet count also increases the risk of bleeding from many areas, particularly from the mouth, nose, and gastrointestinal tract.
A normal platelet count is generally seen to be between 150,000–300,000/mm3
