Why does the absorption of digested food occur mainly in the small intestine?

Answers (1)

Digestion of food takes place in the small intestine because it has small hair-like projections on the surface called villi which increases its surface area. The small intestine is richly supplied with blood vessels that take the absorbed food to all the cells of the body.
