Explain solution for RD Sharma maths Class 12 Chapter 15 Tangents and Normals Exercise Multiple Choice Question, Question 36 maths textbook solution.

Answers (1)

Answer : (a) is the correct option

Hint : \text { Put }(0,0) \text { in } \frac{d y}{d x}

Given :

             y=x^{\frac{1}{5}}

Solution :

y=x^{\frac{1}{5}}                                           (1)

Differentiating (1) w.r.t x, we get

\begin{aligned} &\frac{d y}{d x}=\frac{1}{5} x^{\frac{1}{5}-1} \\ &=\frac{1}{5} x^{-\frac{4}{5}} \\ &\left(\frac{d y}{d x}\right)_{(0,0)}=\infty \end{aligned}

\therefore y=x^{\frac{1}{5}} Has vertical tangent
