Answer: \frac{1+\sqrt{3}}{2}

Hint: \cos x<\sin x \text { where } 0 \leq x \leq \frac{\pi}{4}

Given: f(x)=|\cos x-\sin x|

Solution:  f(x)=|\cos x-\sin x|

\begin{array}{ll} f(x)=\cos x-\sin x & 0 \leq x \leq \pi / 4 \\\\ f(x)=-(\cos x-\sin x) & \frac{\pi}{4} \leq x \leq \frac{\pi}{2} \end{array}

\begin{aligned} &f(x)=-\cos x-\sin x \quad 0 \leq x \leq \pi / 4 \\\\ &f(x)=\cos x+\sin x \quad \frac{\pi}{4} \leq x \leq \frac{\pi}{2} \end{aligned}

          \begin{aligned} &=\frac{1}{\sqrt{2}}+\frac{\sqrt{3}}{2} \\\\ &=\frac{1+\sqrt{3}}{2} \end{aligned}
