Answer: \left(\frac{d y}{d x}\right)_{-1}=1 \text { and }\left(\frac{d y}{d x}\right)_{x=1}=3

Hint: y=\left(\begin{array}{cc} 3 x & x \geq 0 \\ x & x<0 \end{array}\right)

Given: y=2 x+|x|

Solution:  

\begin{aligned} &y=\left(\begin{array}{ll} 2 x+x & x \geq 0 \\ 2 x-x & x<0 \end{array}\right) \\\\ &y=\left(\begin{array}{cc} 3 x & x \geq 0 \\ x & x<0 \end{array}\right) \\\\ &\frac{d y}{d x}=\left(\begin{array}{ll} 3 & x>0 \\ 1 & x<0 \end{array}\right) \end{aligned}

\left(\frac{d y}{d x}\right)_{-1}=1 \text { and }\left(\frac{d y}{d x}\right)_{1}=3
