ANSWER:

HINT:

Use \overrightarrow{a}\times \overrightarrow{b}=0 then they are parallel.

GIVEN:

Two vectors,

(2 \hat{i}+6 \hat{j}+14 \hat{k}) \times(\hat{i}-\lambda \hat{j}+7 \hat{k})=0

SOLUTION:

If cross product of two vectors:

\begin{aligned} &\vec{a}=a_{1} \hat{i}+a_{2} \hat{j}+a_{3} \hat{k} \\ &\vec{b}=b_{1} \hat{i}+b_{2} \hat{j}+b_{3} \hat{k} \quad \text { Is zero } \end{aligned}

Then,

\frac{a_{1}}{b_{1}}=\frac{a_{2}}{b_{2}}=\frac{a_{3}}{b_{3}}

Similarly,

\frac{2}{1}=\frac{6}{-\lambda}=\frac{14}{7}

\begin{gathered} \therefore \frac{2}{1}=\frac{6}{-\lambda} \\ -\lambda=\frac{6}{2} \\ \lambda=-3 \end{gathered}
