        Absolute Maximum = 19  at x=-3,

        Absolute Minimum = 3  at  x=1

Hint:

        Find the critical points

Given:

        f(x)=(x-1)^{2}+3 \text { in }[-3,1]

Explanation:

        \begin{aligned} &f^{\prime}(x)=2(x-1)+0 \\ &=2 x-2 \\ &f^{\prime}(x)=0 \\ &2 x-2=0 \\ &x=1 \end{aligned}

Now,

 We check the value of f(x) at x=-3, 1

Hence,

        Absolute maximum = 19 at x=-3

         Absolute minimum = 3 at x=1
