Solution :

\begin{aligned} &(p \times p)-[(p-1 \times p+1)] \\ &=p^{2}-\left[p^{2}-1\right] \quad \because\left(A^{2}-B^{2}=(A-B)(A+B)\right) \\ &=p^{2}-p^{2}+1 \\ &=1 \end{aligned}
