Given:

                \int_{1}^{4}|x-5| d x

Solution:

              \begin{aligned} I=\int_{1}^{4}|x-5| d x \\ \end{aligned}

              \left\{\begin{array}{l} x-5, x \geq 5 \\ -(x-5), x<5 \end{array}\right\}

              \begin{aligned} &I=\int_{1}^{4}(-x+5) d x \\ & \end{aligned}

              =\left(\frac{-x^{2}}{2}+5 x\right)_{1}^{4} \\

              =12-\frac{9}{2} \\

             =\frac{15}{2}
