Answers (1)

Answer:

                \frac{2\pi}{3}

Hints:

You must have known about the principal values of inverse functions.

Given:

                \cos^{-1}\left ( -\frac{1}{2}\right ) is

Solution:

                \cos^{-1}\left ( -\frac{1}{2}\right )=y

                \cos y=\frac{1}{2}

                \cos y=\cos\left ( \frac{2\pi}{3} \right )

Since range of \cos^{-1}  is \left [ 0,\pi \right ]

Hence, principal value is \frac{2\pi}{3}
