Solution:

 P(only A passing the examination) = P (A passes) P (B fails)

\begin{aligned} &=\mathrm{P}(\mathrm{A} \cap \overline{B)} \\ &=\frac{2}{9}\left(1-\frac{5}{9}\right) \\ &=\frac{2}{9}\left(\frac{4}{9}\right) \\ &=\frac{8}{81} \end{aligned}
