Need Solution for R.D.Sharma Maths Class 12 Chapter 30 Probability  Exercise Multiple Choice Questions  Question 43 Maths Textbook Solution.

Answers (1)

Answer:(c)

Hint: You must know the rules of finding probability.

Given:P(A)=0.3, P(A \cap B)=0.5

Solution: A and B are independent events.

So,

\begin{aligned} &P(A \cap B)=P(A) \times P(B) \\ &=0.3 \times P(B) \\ &=0.3 P(B) \quad \rightarrow(1) \end{aligned}

Also,

\begin{aligned} &P(A \cup B)=P(A)+P(B)-P(A \cap B) \\ &0.5=0.3+P(B)-0.3 P(B) \quad \rightarrow \text { from }(1) \\ &0.5-0.3=0.7 P(B) \end{aligned}

\begin{aligned} &0.7 P(B)=0.2 \\ &P(B)=\frac{0.2}{0.7} \\ &P(B)=\frac{2}{7} \end{aligned}

Using (1)

\begin{aligned} &P(A \cap B)=0.3 P(B) \\ &=0.3 \times \frac{2}{7}=\frac{6}{70} \end{aligned}

Now,

\begin{aligned} &P\left(\frac{A}{B}\right)-P\left(\frac{B}{A}\right)=\frac{P(A \cap B)}{P(B)}-\frac{P(A \cap B)}{P(A)} \\ &=\frac{\left(\frac{6}{70}\right)}{\left(\frac{2}{7}\right)}-\frac{\left(\frac{6}{70}\right)}{(0.3)} \end{aligned}

\begin{aligned} &=\frac{6 \times 7}{70 \times 2}-\frac{6}{70 \times 0.3} \\ &=\frac{3}{10}-\frac{2}{7} \\ &=\frac{21-20}{70} \\ &=\frac{1}{70} \end{aligned}
