Half of them are rusted,If one item is chosen at random.

Solution: Rusted item = 3+5 = 8

Rusted nails = 3

Total nails = 6

P (getting a rusted item or nail) = P (getting a rusted item) + P (getting a nail) – P (R\cap Nail)

\begin{aligned} &=\frac{8}{16}+\frac{6}{16}-\frac{3}{16} \\ &=\frac{8+6-3}{16} \\ &=\frac{11}{16} \end{aligned}
