Answers (1)

Answer: (a)

Hint: You must know the rules of finding probability.

Given:

\begin{aligned} &P(A)=0.25 \\ &P(B)=0.50 \end{aligned}

\text { Probability of both happening together }=\mathrm{P}(A \cap B)=0.14

Solution:

\begin{aligned} &\mathrm{P}(A \cup B)=P(A)+P(B)-\mathrm{P}(A \cap B) \\ &=0.25+0.5-0.14 \\ &=0.61 \\ \end{aligned}

\begin{aligned} &P(\text { both } \mathrm{A} \text { and } \mathrm{B} \text { not happening })=1-\mathrm{P}(A \cap B)^{\prime} \\ &=1-\mathrm{P}(A \cup B) \\ &=1-0.61 \\ &=0.39 \end{aligned}
